Here is just a short post from Marseille. My favorite part was seeing the island just off shore that inspired Alexandre Dumas to write his novel, The Comte de Monte Cristo!

Another Tour of Europe post! This time featuring...PRAGUE! While Praha was very tourist-y, it was still a highlight of the trip--seemingly quintessential Europe. :)

The lilacs were all in bloom during our time in Praha. Particularly in the yard of this (beautiful) church, which was almost just a field of lilacs. It smelled so sweet, and wandering around through the huge lilac bushes made me feel like I was in Alice and Wonderland. Haha :)

Munich, Germany

Next stop on the European Tour: Munich, Germany! We were so excited to experience Bavaria. It was an incredible region with great food--the soft pretzels (brezen) and the white beer (weissbier) were unforgettable.

Sissy soaking up the sun during our snack break...stands selling local produce lined the streets--including stands selling the German staple, white asparagus (spargel).

We took a day trip over to Dachau, the Nazi concentration camp. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life-being there, in the very spot, where such atrocities were committed. This is the gate where most prisoners entered, under the Jour Haus. It reads, "work brings freedom," and represents the brain-washing that took place at this site. The camp was made out to be a 're-education and training' facility.

I'll only include one more photo of Dachau, even though I could make an entire post with lots of pictures and detailing everything that I learned there, since most probably do not want to see these photos.

This is the old trench and barbed wire fencing with a watch tower overlooking the barracks of the camp.

The church where my sister and I spent Easter Sunday, Domkirche St. Stephan. It was a great experience, the choir was impressive, and the structure of the church itself was magnificent.

The next series of posts will be a reflection of a spectacular tour of Europe that my sister and I went on together. We spent a couple weeks traveling around...our first stop was Great Britain. London was one of our favorite cities! It was clean, smelled like fresh flowers (everything was in bloom), and was absolutely charming.

The Peter Pan statue!!! This famous statue by Sir George Frampton in Kensington Gardens was one of my most highly anticipated sights to see. I was completely enchanted by the city of London, and the Peter Pan statue was the cherry on top. I love this statue.

We went to the London Ice Bar--it was awesome.

...and now...WILL AND KATE!! Holly and I were beyond lucky. We ended up at Buckingham Palace (by surprise) and found our way in front of the people who had been camping out for five days. Unbelievable. At one point we were swinging from the trees and were interviewed by a camera crew...we were on Belgian TV, haha.

The rest of the Royal Family...Prince Charles, Camilla, Her Majesty the Queen (in the yellow dress and hat), and then there's Pippa on the end too.

It was Royal Wedding Mania.

The day after the wedding, the Today Show was filming (note Al Roker in the pink).

Westminster Abbey the day after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were married there!

I know that was a huge post (expect the rest of the Europe posts to be huge as well, haha)...thanks for being patient and looking all the way through to the end!

The top image is the stuff I make at home. The bottom image is from an incredible little cafe called "biscotto." Seriously, this was the best cappuccino I have ever had. Can't wait to visit again :)

Rethymnon

Rethymnon is a pretty coastal city in Crete, only about 70 km from Heraklion.

My friends and I made a trip to the west coast of Crete, and after a wonderful hike arrived at this gorgeous scene. The beach of Balos. This photograph really doesn't do it justice. The water was so vibrantly blue and the landscape and mountains were stunning as well. Additionally, there were quite a few other islands scattered along the coast. A very interesting topography.

Akti Zeus

Akti Zeus...an abandoned hotel in Ammoudara. It was pretty creepy. It's located on the outskirts of the hotel zone, near a power plant. Nearly everything was left inside, beds, phones, furniture, dishes, stocked closets with lightbulbs, etc. The floors are covered with dust, footprints clearly visible. Oh, and I can't forget the creepiest part...the clock in the lobby still works, it's still running and ticking. Eeek!

Don't worry, I went with a group of people. I would not go here alone, at times I felt like I was in a horror film! Hah!

Matala - the hippie caves

Matala is a famous beach on the south shore of Crete. Back in the 1960s hippies would come here and live in the caves all summer long. I don't think they ever completely left, there were definitely some wandering around during our visit.

It is believed that the caves were originally carved and used as grave sites.

My absolute favorite image of the day. Possibly one of my favorites I've ever taken (even if I was creepin' a little, I don't know her). It's tranquil and peaceful reading a book at the water's edge as the sun sets :)

We actually took a hike (a rather steep one) to another beach, a red beach. I didn't bring my camera, anticipating a rough hike. When we arrived I wished that I had brought it--the landscape was spectacular.

Festos, or in Greek, Φαιστός

A visit to the famous ancient city of Festos, now ancient ruins. The city was self-sufficient, including its own currency and palace for worshipping.

It's crazy to think that people used to walk right here so long ago -- 4000 BC!

This one is my favorite, part of the palace.

This is a charm I bought, it's the disc of Festos. Very Cretan. The original was found in the palace, it's fired clay from the Minoan Bronze Age. To this day, it cannot be interpreted by anyone, and remains quite the archaeological mystery. Monastery in Southern Crete

On Saturday my friends and I rented a car and headed to the southern coast of Crete! Despite my tendency towards car sickness, the drive through the country was beautiful. We stopped at a monastery on the way...and it turned out to be like a little town in and of itself! This was my first time being at one, so maybe they're all that way? Anyway, here are some of the images I captured there :)

Santorini

Beautiful Santorini! Easily Top 5 on my 'Favorite Places I've Ever Been' list. Bestie, Holly, came to visit me, and we went to Santorini together, we had a blast :) I love you, Hosh!

This was one of our first views after we were picked up from the airport. Gorgeous.

Needless to say, we felt like celebs.

Santorini is famous for its steep cliffs. It used to be that the only way you could get up from the dock (sea level) was to ride a donkey! Even though they use vans/buses now, I liked seeing this guy with his caravan of donkeys.

It was one of the biggest snow storms Philadelphia has ever seen. The snow was up past my waist, and it was record-breaking in John's hometown of Abington, just miles outside of Philadelphia.

Meet my niece, Leni Starr. We went to a puppy farm to visit some German Short Hair pups. She loved them so much, and thought that they were all belonging to her. Haha :)

They loved her, too.

So sweet, she just loved them.

Awwwe.
